Benefits of Dental Implants

If you have issues with your teeth, you’ve probably heard that dental implants are a great solution. This is true, as they provide many benefits. The stumbling block is often in the price associated with dental implants, as it can be pretty steep. However, if you take the following advantages into account, you can see why they’re not only worth it but will likely save you a great deal of money in the long run.

They’re As Close to Natural As You Can Get

Dentures and other dental solutions can be helpful, but they can also look pretty fake. This is especially true if they happen to slide down while you’re talking or eating.

And that’s not even to mention how careful you have to be with them. There are many items you can’t eat, as they are too tough. And chewing your favorite candy can cause problems, like the aforementioned slipping of the dentures. This can be embarrassing, of course, but it can also be frustrating to miss out on your favorite eats.

Dental implants are a bit different. They are actually attached to your bones, so they look just like natural teeth. You can also eat pretty much anything without any trouble.

Granted, you’ll be a bit sore when you first get them, so you won’t want to chomp down on much. After you heal, though, it’s a different story. You can go back to your favorite dinners and desserts without worrying about anything slipping out.

They Prevent Further Tooth Trouble

Some people who need implants don’t need them for their whole mouth. Instead, they need them for a tooth or two. When you’re only missing one or a few teeth, dental implants can be the best option. They provide support for surrounding teeth, keeping them straight and preventing pain – which prevents unnecessary trips to the dentist.

Additionally, having an implant prevents jaw bone loss. When your jaw bone doesn’t have a tooth to support, it begins to disintegrate. This impacts the surrounding teeth as well as the look of your mouth. It can make you appear older and lead you to other anti-aging treatments.

The good news is that if you already have experienced jaw bone loss, there is a fix. You can have a bone graft done to replace the missing bone. The bad news is that it costs money. By getting implants in the first place, you keep yourself from needing to spend that extra cash.

Implants Last Longer

While dentures and similar solutions can provide a solution to dental troubles, it’s usually a temporary solution. Most dentures don’t last more than a few years – and that’s if they aren’t dropped or somehow broken.

Even if that doesn’t occur, though, they stop fitting well over time as your jaw bone deteriorates. This leads to the need for pretty constant replacements that can quickly add up.
Dental implants, on the other hand, can last a lifetime when you take care of them. There might be the occasional need for a replacement, but most will last well beyond other solutions. So yes, they do cost more upfront, but you usually only have to pay for them once.
