Laptops are made to be light and handy, but not without a price. There are lots of things out there that can address this issue, providing all the capabilities you want, but which of them are truly useful? Clearly, each one should be judged on its own merits, but there are laptop accessories that you just can’t sanely do without.
External Hard Drives
At this time when computers are prone to various risks, from stray magnets to viruses and more, backing up is critical. If you have but a few files to secures, a USB drive may be good enough. To store larger data chunks, you can go for an online service like Google Drive or DropBox. If you want to save practically everything, from your files to your preferences to your settings, an eternal hard drive is undoubtedly for you. Most people would get a basic, portable hard drive, but if portability isn’t necessary for you, buying a bigger and heavier desktop external can be more cost-effective .
If you’re a computer professional and you notice your laptop burning, you can simply pull the base open and begin cleaning the fan. Otherwise, just buy a laptop fan. This may cost you about $15-20, but that will most probably be for life. It’s one of those costs that are important, not simply for convenience’ sake but, more importantly, for safety. Fires stemming from burnt laptops aren’t exactly unheard of.
Whether or not you should keep spare batteries is disputable. Because Apple laptops have inbuilt batteries, an extra set would be mostly useless. However, if you need long hours of battery-based performance, then you surely should consider getting one. That will come in handy on extended flights or bus rides. When getting extra batteries, make sure they’re made for your laptop. Spending $80-100 on something that won’t fit can be extremely frustrating.
Touchpads can be quite annoying, though you can always get accustomed to them after a while. If you’re seriously into gaming, you may already have a killer mouse. If you just like to use a mouse, or your touchpad is low quality or becoming intolerable, just get a mouse at your local store.
Don’t you just hate how laptop speakers make this tiny and hardly audible sound? They sure have improved a lot over time, but sometimes, they’re just not enough, especially when you’re trying to watch a video or a movie. In this scenario, a pair of cheap speakers can be invaluable. You will find lots of cute and fancy options out there, but don’t be swayed. Just get something that works for you, no matter how dull-looking.
