The Never-ending Popularity of Origami
Origami or paper folding as what most people know of is something that has been considered to be one of the most favorite hobbies among a lot of people in the arts and crafts industry.
What you need to know about Origami is the fact that until now, its origins are something that still a lot of people are not so sure of. The only exact detail will have to be the fact that in the first century A.D. in China, paper first came to exist. It was during the sixth century A.D. that some Buddhist monks decided to go and visit Japan brining along with them this sort of invention. By looking at these two countries in mind, you can already figure out that the art of paper folding or Origami cannot be traced if it was the Chinese culture or the Japanese culture that started it all. However, you have to take note of the fact that it was the Japanese who was responsible in making Origami an art that is of high form. The word Origami itself is something that is a Japanese term. If you will be diving the terms ‘oru’ and ‘kami’ from the word Origami, you will be getting the meanings of ‘to fold’ and ‘paper’, respectively.
Origami can be seen among the presents that you might have received form children that go to school and practice the art of paper folding or what you call Origami. For a lot of teachers, they also teach their students the art of paper folding as this has been shown to be just not that expensive that will allow them to bond better with their students. Aside from the usual paper airplanes that are being made by most students that are clearly not being instructed by their teacher, Origami making can be done in school to make the much higher art forms of toys, boats, animals, and birds.
Since Origami is part of the Oriental culture, you will not have to wonder why the most common subject for Origami will have to be some birds. For most people who have acquired a higher level of skills and expertise in Origami, they can clearly create not just birds but other types of animals too as well as all sorts of objects that they might be seeing around them.
Just like all other art forms out there, you will notice that Origami has its own set of unique terminologies. As you slowly immerse yourself in the art of paper folding, you will be coming across the terms such as square base, mountain fold, bird base, and many more. For all of the folds and bases that you will be learning in Origami, you will then be able to make a wide range of things with the use of your very own paper.
